A little about myself:
Hi, I’m Houston Brassfield—a multidisciplinary designer based in Chicago with a BFA in Visual Communication and a minor in Art History from the University of Oklahoma.
My work spans brand identity, packaging design, campaign systems, art direction, and visual storytelling across consumer, healthcare, and technology categories. Over the past several years, I’ve partnered with brands including Glad, Kraft Heinz, Burt’s Bees, Google, Crystal Light, Pfizer, Clorox, and Mondelez to create experiences that connect strategy with emotional impact.
I’m especially drawn to packaging and identity work because it sits at the intersection of aesthetics, behavior, and everyday interaction. With a foundation in traditional studio art, I bring a strong sensitivity to color, composition, and storytelling into every project. Whether I’m building a visual system, developing campaign assets, or refining the details of a final package on shelf, I keep in mind every detail.
Outside of design, you’ll usually find me writing, reading, tending to plants of varying success rates, or searching for inspiration in books, art, and the little moments of everyday life.
My process:
Trial & Error
I learned in art school to be ok with the everything-sucks-in-the-beginning phase. I dump whatever I can think of on the page and play until something lands. Working collaboratively with my peers is my favorite way to work.
Art Direction
I do my best to consider every detail—from typography to imagery—to ensure my design is meaningful and visually stunning. Nothing is overlooked and every aspect is considered. Every piece should be speaking to one another.
Visual Storytelling
Beyond aesthetics, I focus on emphasizing the strategy and message that is being told in the work. It shouldn’t be pretty for pretty’s sake, but actively speaking the mission of the client and articulating the goals of the project.
Competitive Strategy
Research is key. I like to conduct an audit on competitors and industry leaders, analyzing trends and opportunities to position my designs strategically and distinctively. My goal is to create work that stands out and feels new.

Where to find me
I’m not social-media inclined, so my posts are limited. I prefer to live in the moment and not feel constrained to my phone, however, I do post occasionally! View my favorite playlists on my Spotify and see what I’m up to on Instagram. If you’re wondering where my handles came from, a random-profile-name generator might have had a part in it.
