ASMR Catalogue

Conceptual UI - UX / Branding

2018

personal project

As someone who enjoys the soothing, tippy-tappy sounds of ASMR, I envisioned Ease—a conceptual ASMR sound library designed to help users meditate, relax, and unwind through carefully curated audio experiences. ASMR, short for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, is a calming sensation triggered by sound, often described as a tingling feeling that begins at the scalp and moves down the spine.

Collaborating with a close friend, we designed a clean, intuitive interface for both web and mobile, ensuring a seamless and immersive user experience. The platform would feature hand-curated playlists, each representing an ASMR sound category, accompanied by custom illustrations that visually embodied the essence of each playlist. The soft, muted color palette was carefully selected to complement the neutral, minimalist interface, enhancing the app’s tranquil aesthetic.

My contributions included designing the web interface, wordmark, and headphone concept, as well as collaborating on the illustrations for album cover art. Through Ease, I aimed to merge soothing visuals with immersive sound design, creating a digital space for relaxation and sensory exploration.

ease album covers

One of the biggest challenges in this project was translating sound into visual form through hand-drawn illustrations. To achieve this, we studied line drawings of elevations and developed a unique, abstract style that subtly mimics the essence of each album title while maintaining an air of interpretive ambiguity.

The albums are categorized based on ASMR trigger sounds, each designed to evoke a specific sensory experience:

  • Atmospheric – Capturing the feeling of spaciousness and ambiance, featuring sounds like bustling streets, serene wind chimes, and shifting air.

  • Food – Focused on culinary textures, from the sizzle of cooking to the crunch of biting into something crispy.

  • Human – A collection of subtle, intimate sounds, including whispers, soft tapping, and personal attention triggers.

  • Nature – A familiar and soothing category, featuring thunderstorms, rustling leaves, and the gentle rhythm of ocean waves.

  • Technology – Designed for those who find comfort in white noise, with sounds like a humming fan, a running washing machine, or radio static.

  • Abstract – A fusion of all categories, offering an experimental blend of ASMR triggers, from the snipping of kinetic sand to the sticky pull of tape from a cardboard box.

Each album cover illustration was crafted to visually complement its respective soundscape, ensuring a harmonious connection between audio and imagery as well as creating a unique style for the brand.

Branded merchandise

To further immerse users in the Ease experience, we explored merchandise that would enhance the way people engage with ASMR. Vinyl records felt like a natural yet unexpected extension of the brand—offering a tactile, analog way to experience curated ASMR triggers on a record player. Instead of traditional music, each record features carefully selected soundscapes, providing a unique and immersive listening experience.

Additionally, we designed custom headphones that seamlessly align with the brand’s aesthetic. By incorporating our hand-drawn illustrations directly onto the headphones, we created a product that not only complements Ease’s visual identity but also offers a personalized, artistic touch for listeners seeking relaxation and sensory engagement.
